Vernissage and Jazz Concert

Vernissage with Lucile Leloup

My cross-disciplinary approach to the worlds of culture and agriculture has led me to develop a complex and sensitive view of the relationships we share with the living world. On the eve of the handover of the family farm to new hands, I’m looking to understand how this pivotal moment is also the moment when the stories that populate the landscape are passed on. To do this, I use mainly materials from my rural surroundings, such as wool, wood, hemp and linen.

Finissage and Jazz night

Finissage with Lucile Leloup

My cross-disciplinary approach to the worlds of culture and agriculture has led me to develop a complex and sensitive view of the relationships we share with the living world. On the eve of the handover of the family farm to new hands, I’m looking to understand how this pivotal moment is also the moment when the stories that populate the landscape are passed on. To do this, I use mainly materials from my rural surroundings, such as wool, wood, hemp and linen.

It is through the transversality of these materials, which have already undergone cycles of transformation, that I tend to inscribe myself in a dynamic of movement and long temporality. I like to work around contradictory notions such as the static and the dynamic, the robust and the fragile, or presence and lack. By considering the memories with which the earth is imbued, I seek to recount the intimate relationships at play in the vivid and fragile world of a farming community in the throes of transformation.

Concert “Inner worlds”

19.00 Guided Tour with Mikael Thoury

21.00 Concert with Tilo Wachter: Solo for handpan & voice

‘Handpan’ is an evolution of the Caribbean steeldrum (oil drum) and was developed in Bern in 2000.
This UFO-shaped metal instrument is the first idiophone to combine melody, chords and percussion in a single material. A first in the history of musical instruments the world over!
Its spherical, overtone-rich sound is so new that it triggers no memory in us of our own biography. We fall, as if by magic, into the here and now. And yet the sound is both archaic and familiar. Tilo Wachter has been exploring this balance for 22 years, combining this brand new hang music with musicians from a variety of ancient musical traditions.
His solo programme ‘Innenwelten’ (inner worlds) is a resonance of all these encounters. As a result, his pieces always seem to come from other cultures – distant yet very familiar.
Tilo Wachter has made an international name for himself as a virtuoso. On four hangs, he blends polyphonic melodies with powerful vocals to create his unique style: it sounds like harps and tablas at the same time – shamans and muezzins.
In his powerful songs, he uses the ‘Gromolo’ technique, a language made up of invented syllables, allowing each listener to fill in these syllables by association with completely personal content.

Tilo Wachter studied Latin percussion in Rotterdam and works as a musical director for international theatre, film and dance projects. Since 2002, he has been touring internationally with his compositions for four handpans. He has performed with Gentleman on MTV unplugged, Basel Sinfonietta, Orchestra della Svizzera italiana, Mariana Sadovska, Mike Schweizer and many others. He composes for film and theatre. In his seminars, he combines music pedagogy and music therapy with a new ‘integral awareness’ of resonance.
Comments from the press: ‘Intuition, a composer’s touch and first-rate craftsmanship form a unique and unprecedented blend. Melodies blossom in which the knowledge of the whole of humanity is poured into spellbindingly beautiful formulas’. (Badische Zeitung Freiburg 2017)

Handpan Workshop

The Music and Consciousness workshop is for beginners with Tilo Wachter

Dates : Saturday 19.07. 11am-5pm and Sunday 20.07. 10am-4pm

Fees: Handpan – Workshop (12-hour intensive, max. 8 participants): 270.00

Rental instruments are available on request. (For both days: 30€.)

We cover the following themes – Listening to music through the body and breathing – Flow improvisation framework – Basic strokes & coordination – Every ‘mistake’ is an idea – Is the handpan an instrument for me?

The first encounter and initiation (up to a year’s experience) into playing the handpan is experienced as a global process: perception of the body, breathing and ‘listening without prejudice’ lead us towards musical flow!

However simple the handpan may seem at first, it invites us to take new paths. We use this invitation as a chance to explore new sounds and movements with a ‘beginner’s mind’, listening in amazement: You can hear your own music resonating.

In this workshop, I use elements of trauma-sensitive coaching, music therapy and ‘Gestalt-therapie’ as well as breathing and bodywork. It is therefore an ideal introduction for all music, body, psychological and trauma therapists who wish to integrate music as a medium into their work.

Pizzica- Dance Workshop

La Pizzica is a popular dance from southern Italy. The two-day course, under the professional guidance of Elena Gianini, is aimed at dance enthusiasts with or without prior knowledge. Pizzica is a dance that can be seen as a journey towards oneself through the expressive power of the body, carried along by music and ancestral rhythms. Pizzica is danced together, by groups or couples, both male and female. Pizzica steps are small, combined with twirls and small jumps. The class begins by warming up the body, exploring the basic elements of dance in harmony: space, dynamics and relationships. We then move on to direct practice of basic steps, style and body posture.

Elena Gianini teaches Pizzica Pizzica in Switzerland. She trained in classical, contemporary, flamenco and popular dance.
She trained in Pizzica for several years, taking part in a long series of classes given by a number of renowned dancers: Andrea de Siena, Fabrizio Nigro, Veronica Calati, Stefano Campana, Maristella Martella, Tarantarte, Silvia De Ronzo , Moira Cappilli, Anna Dego, Maria Piscopo, Angela Esposito, Tullja Conte and Mattia Doto, Rachele Andrioli.

For those travelling from afar: the château has a limited number of accommodation options. Registration required, number of places limited.
